Connecting a Personal Apple Computer to Clarendon 3 Networks

So you want to connect your Apple Computer to the WiFi at Clarendon 3.

If you are using a personal device, please connect to Clarendon3-Guest. This will allow limited internet access for research, email, and other connectivity.

If you are a Clarendon 3 Faculty Member, we allow a less filtered connection through our Guest network. Please follow the instructions below to submit a help desk for adding your device.

Adding your Device To The Clarendon 3 Faculty Filter

In order to enable your device to use our Faculty filter, you will need to do the following:

1. Verify the Name Of Your Device

When your device connects to a network, it is identified by its hostname. The defualt hostname is unrecognizable to technology staff, so we need to change it to be easily identifiable to its owner.

  • Launch System Preferences
  • Click the Sharing icon
  • Rename it to firstinitiallastname-mac
  • Example: John Doe would name his device jdoe-mac

2. Locate The MAC Address For Your Device

Your device's Wi-Fi interface has a permanent, unique serial number called a media access control (MAC) address.Clarendon 3 requires your MAC address if you wish to connect to our Guest network as a staff member, or to connect to certain Wi-Fi networks.

This is important: You should not share your MAC address with anyone except authorized IT personnel. MAC addresses are unique and permanent, but they can also be spoofed by others. Please only give out your mac address through our District Support sites!

  • Select System Preferences from the Apple menu at the top left of your screen.
  • Click Network from the System Preferences menu.
  • Choose Wi-Fi from the list of interfaces on the left and click the Advanced button.
  • Choose the Hardware tab under which you will see the MAC address of your wireless card.
Make a record of the MAC Address (xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx)

3. Create A Help Desk Request With The Information

Go to our Support Site and create a ticket with your contact information. In the Issue Summary field, Enter Add My Device To Faculty Filter. In the Issue Detail box, please list the Device name and MAC address.
